Sector 1 Gallery<\/span><\/a> (Bucharest, Romania) and <\/span>VISP<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Produksjonsenhet for visuell kunst (Bergen, Norway) present the first in a series of three online workshops on entrepreneurship in the arts. The three workshops – Artist branding (I), Artist survival (II) and The Norwegian Contemporary Art Scene (III) will focus on providing artists, curators and other art professionals with the insights and tools to improve their entrepreneurial skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

An objective reality of the contemporary art market is the brand potential of the artist. Both galleries and artists should work together in order to reveal those characteristics that can come to define an artist's own brand; later on developing strategies for the exposure, the communication and the increase in visibility of the artist brand. This process is difficult yet essential in raising an artist's visibility. This workshop highlights potential approaches to achieve this.<\/span><\/p>\n

During a two-hour session, artist and professor of visual art and painting Eamon O'Kane will guide participants through several key topics related to artist branding. The workshop is dedicated to artists of all ages and backgrounds, who would like to discover more about how to build and maintain an artist brand. The session offers a short and condensed take on this subject, providing the insight and tools to navigate artist branding nowadays.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop will explore the following topics: working with galleries, research and brand monitoring through the use of online resources including Artfacts, Artsy, Artnet, Limna, extending your brand \/ social media, maintaining your brand \/ website and archival work, developing and protecting your brand in connection with exposure and working with museums, public galleries and public commissions.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Artist<\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Eamon O\u2019Kane<\/b> (b. 1974) is an Irish artist who lives and works in Norway and Denmark. Since 2011, he has been a professor of Visual Art and Painting at The Art Academy, University of Bergen, Norway. O\u2019Kane\u2019s multi-disciplinary practice has consistently been drawn to architectural contexts, whether in his Froebel Studio installation works that explore environments of play, or else in works such as Glass House that presented a scaled model of Philip Johnson\u2019s iconic Glass House which was exhibited at California 101 in San Francisco and then at his first museum solo exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sheldon Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska. O\u2019Kane has exhibited widely in exhibitions curated by Dan Cameron, Lynne Cooke, Klaus Ottman, Salah M.Hassan, Jeremy Millar, Angelike Nollert, Yilmaz Dziewior, and others. He has been a recipient of the Taylor Art Award, the Tony O\u2019Malley Award, a Fulbright Award, an EV+A open award (Dan Cameron), the IMMA residency in Dublin, the BSR Scholarship in Rome, the CCI residency in Paris, and a Pollock Krasner Foundation grant. He has been short-listed for the AIB Prize, the PS1 studio fellowship in New York, and the Jerwood Drawing Prize in London. He has had over 80 solo exhibitions internationally, including in New York, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen, Dublin, Belfast, and Cork. He has participated in numerous biennales including EVA, Limerick, Lule\u00e5 Biennal, Norwegian Sculpture Biennal, and Dublin Contemporary.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
